Master Competition Rules

  • All work will be done using only the sand in your assigned, 20’ x 20’ plot. Nothing may be added to the sand except water.
  • No power equipment, screw guns or machinery are allowed in your plot. No templates or molds are allowed when sculpting.
  • Only you are allowed inside your plot, except that you may have help carrying forms in and out of the plot.
  • The DDC is in effect. Ours is a family-oriented event; the organizers, sponsors and public feel strongly that sculptures should not include anything that is intentionally offensive.
  • Anyone working before the start time or after the stop time will be disqualified.

Schedule

  • Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with mandatory 1 hour lunch break
  • Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with mandatory 1 hour lunch break
  • Sunday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Judging will be completed by 3 p.m.
  • Awards will be given at 6 p.m.


  • You may spray sealant on your finished work at any time, using only the sealant provided by the event. Raking of plot must be completed by stop time. Only foot steps from spraying sealant may be raked after the final stop time.
  • All forms must be removed and all compacted sand must be sculpted or otherwise altered by hand once the forms are removed. Contest organizers reserve the right to disqualify any sculptures that are obviously unfinished.
  • All sculptures will be judged in the round according to the judging criteria provided. The decisions of the judges are final.

Florida State Pro-Am Competition
Application Info & Rules

The Florida State Pro-Am Competition is a solo event limited to six competitors, three at each of the two competition sites (Holiday Inn and Gull Wing/Point Estero). It is intended as a venue for advanced amateurs and is not open to professional or Master sculptors.

Schedule

  • Friday, November 6th, sculptors’ meeting, time and place to be announced.
  • Saturday, competition 9 am to 6 pm with mandatory 1 hour lunch break
  • Sunday, competition 8 am to 2 pm, judging at 2 pm, awards ceremony to follow

Rules

  • No power equipment, screw guns or machinery are allowed in your plot. No templates or molds are allowed when sculpting.
  • You are allowed one helper for the first 2 hours on Saturday only, to help with the pound-up only. Your site manager will assist if you need help carrying forms out of the plot.
  • Ours is a family-oriented event; the organizers, sponsors and public feel strongly that sculptures should not include anything that would commonly be considered offensive.
  • Anyone working before the start time or after the stop time will be disqualified.

Sculptor Amenities

Sculptors will be provided with dinner on Friday, 3 meals on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Sculptors are responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses and for their own tools and forms. Water will be provided and some forms may be available.

  • First place, $500

Amateur Competition Registration Info & Rules

The Amateur competition is a mixed team/solo event intended as a venue for amateurs and is not open to professional sculptors.

Schedule

  • Sunday, November 8th, 9am - 3pm
  • Registration ends Sunday at 8:30am
  • Judging begins at 3:00pm sharp
  • Award Ceremony 6pm

Amateur Categories

  • Sea Horses: Children Up to age 8 (maximum 6 per team)
  • Star Fish: Children 9 to 12 years (maximum 6 per team)
  • Sand Dollars: Families/Groups (maximum 6 per team)
  • Barnacles: Solo 13 to 17 years
  • Conchs: Solo Adult above 18 years

Rules

  • All work will be done using only the sand in your assigned, 10’ x 10’ plot. Nothing may be added to the sand except water.
  • No power equipment, screw guns or machinery are allowed in your plot. No templates or molds are allowed when sculpting.
  • Only registered team members are allowed inside of your plot. Teams may use non-team members to assist in carrying water to the plot (as example) however; they may not at any time enter the plot.
  • All tools and personal items must not block spectator aisles.
  • Ours is a family-oriented event; the organizers, sponsors and public feel strongly that sculptures should not include anything that would commonly be considered offensive.
  • Anyone working before the start time or after the stop time will be disqualified.
  • All forms must be removed and all compacted sand must be sculpted or otherwise altered by hand once the forms are removed. Contest organizers reserve the right to disqualify any sculptures that are obviously unfinished.
  • Only water and the sand from within the assigned plots may be used to create the sculptures. Only naturally occurring, and biodegradable items found on the beach that day such as seaweed and shells may be used for decoration. No artificial color, paint, flour, sugar cement or adhesives may be used.
  • Sculptures will be judged by a panel of sand sculptors; all decisions are final.
  • The start time is 9:00am and the stop time is 3:00pm (6 hours total). Judging will begin promptly at 3:00.
  • Contestants must provide all their own buckets and shovels, carving tools etc. Water will be available.

Registration Fees

  • Sea Horses and Star Fish Divisions: $15.00 per team advance registration** or $20.00 per team on site registration (maximum 6 per team)
  • Sand Dollar Division: $15.00 per team advance registration** or $20.00 per team on site registration (maximum 6 per team)
    Barnacles Solo: $15.00 advance registration** or $20.00 on site registration
  • Conchs Solo: $15.00 advance registration** or $20.00 on site registration
